Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl flooring is an affordable and attractive option that comes in a variety of colors, patterns, and textures. It's water-resistant, sometimes waterproof, making it ideal for bathrooms and kitchens, and is durable enough for homes with kids and pets. Easy to clean and stain-resistant, vinyl flooring is also quiet, shock absorbent, and can be installed over most existing floors.
Tile Flooring
Tile flooring is waterproof, making it perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, and basements, and it requires little to no maintenance. It offers a high ROI by adding value to a home and comes in a variety of styles, colors, and textures, including wood-look options. Easy to install and repair, tile can also be used outdoors for patios and pools.
Solid Hardwood Flooring
Hardwood flooring is considered the best flooring material due to its high ROI and ability to add significant value to a home. It offers a variety of colors and finishes to match any style and is highly durable, hypoallergenic, and easy to clean. If it begins to wear, it can be sanded and refinished rather than replaced. Additionally, applying a urethane aluminum oxide finish makes it energy-efficient and resistant to stains and spills.
Laminate Flooring
Laminate flooring is a low-cost, durable option that is scratch-resistant and easy to clean. It installs quickly over most existing floors and is resistant to fading from ultraviolet light. Additionally, it requires minimal maintenance, making it a convenient choice for busy households.
Engineered Hardwood Flooring
Engineered hardwood flooring is a more affordable and easier-to-install alternative to solid hardwood, available in a variety of colors and finishes. It expands and contracts less, making it suitable for installation on all levels of the house, including over concrete. It can also be used with radiant heat and, when finished with urethane aluminum oxide, becomes stain and spill resistant.
Carpet Flooring
Carpet flooring offers excellent soundproofing, making it the quietest flooring option, and provides insulation for energy efficiency. It is comfortable for bare feet, creates a cozy atmosphere, and cushions falls. With countless colors, styles, and pile heights available, it is affordable and easily covers uneven floors and adjusts to uneven walls.
When deciding what flooring material to go with, consider these questions:
Where are you installing your new floors? Is it below, on or above grade? Basements are susceptible to ground moisture, so your flooring choice may be different from what you’d choose for a bedroom.
Will the area be humid? Bathrooms and kitchens can cause water damage.
Will the area have radiant heat? Some flooring materials aren’t radiant-heat compatible.
Does the area get a lot of sunlight? Observe the space throughout the day. UV lighting can fade certain flooring materials.
Do you have accurate measures? If not, a professional floor measure can account for doorways, fireplaces, built-ins, etc.
Will you need extra material? It’s always smart to buy 10% more flooring than what you think you’ll need to account for bad pieces, mistakes, or future repairs.
Have you considered what finishing the room will have? You should make sure to coordinate your crown molding, transitions, and accessories.
A professional floor measure accounts for the total floor space that needs to be replaced. Our approach is to measure each room separately and add their totals together. Then, add extra for trimming and to have spare flooring on hand for future use.
We will create an initial sketch of the rooms where flooring will be installed. Our approach includes:
Measuring the length and width of each room at its longest or widest point. We will round up to the nearest half foot. For example, a room 14’ 4” wide would be considered 14” 6” wide.
Multiplying the length times the width to determine the number of square feet in each room. For example, for a room 20’ long and 15’ wide: 20 x 15 = 300 square feet.
Adding the sums together for each room to determine total square feet to be covered with the flooring.
We will account for any structures that may exist in the room to create the most accurate estimate of flooring needed.
Typically we will follow these steps when installing laminate flooring:
Acclimate the planks and prep the subfloor
Trim door jambs
Install underlayment
Lay the first row of laminate planks
Continue laying planks
Add finishing touches
Inspect the subfloor, and install luan if necessary
If needed, install underlayment
Start the first course
Install the rest of your planks
Flooring installation can cost anywhere from $2 to $20 per square foot installed or $1,000 to $10,000 for 500 square feet of flooring. The national average flooring installation cost is around $7 per square foot, which includes the cost of both materials and labor.
Porcelain and ceramic are some of the most durable flooring materials available, and they require little maintenance. Tile flooring is also moisture resistant, making it the perfect choice for areas where spills are common like bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms.
Laminate is one of the most cost-effective flooring choices for homeowners. Laminate is a good choice for people who are hard on floors, so if you have children and pets, it’s a great option.
Wood flooring lasts about 100 years, or even more with proper upkeep. Vinyl flooring will last about 50 years, while you’ll get about 10 years out of your carpet. When it comes to tile flooring, life expectancy depends on the type of tile, maintenance, and amount of foot traffic.
There is no need to change flooring from room to room. We often work with homeowners who feel the urge to pick different flooring for every room of their home, but there is absolutely no need to do this. Your home will look best if you create one consistent look that travels from room to room. One of the most significant benefits of using the same flooring throughout the house is that even if your house is very small, the same flooring will make it appear very large and airy.
